1974 Large/Small Date - Coin Community Forum

CoinDan98 Pillar of the Community United States 1053 Posts	Posted 07/16/2013 2:57 pm i just finished my first box of pennies, and pulled aside all the 1974' s hoping to find both a large and small date variety because I thought it would be pretty cool to have both. I know both varieties of all 3 mints are relatively easy to find, but my question is how do you know which one Is which? I have look on Lincoln Cent Resource and seen pictures, and know to look at the crossbar in the 4. But I still can tell if the ones I have are large or small. Is there any other differentiating factors to look for? Any help is much appreciated. Thank you. Report this Post to the Staff

The pictures on that site are helpful, and CAN tell the difference there. But when it comes to my own coin, I CANNOT tell the difference even if I have the 2 pictures right in front of me. One set has the tapered tips (Small date) and the other has the blunt tips (Large Date) of the date. The reverses also look different in the image provided. Report this Post to the Staff
