I just found my 11th 1999 Wide AM. These are getting harder to find than hens teeth. It was just under 15 months from the tenth one and right at 650,000 cents dumped during that time frame. I have found a total of 72 2000 and 91 1998 wide AMs.

Another one from Kentucky; congratulations! I've been stuck on four 99 WAM's for over two years now. Have had to cut back on the number of cents I've been going through the last few months because I've been so busy with work, but I've been searching steady. They have really dried up. I'm at 46 2000's and 42 1998's.

Wow, that's 260 bricks in about 15 months... or an average of about a brick every two days!

I take it you don't examine every single cent, right?

I look at every single cent front and back under a lighted stand microscope. I save and sort all late year BU to look at under a microscope. I basically look for major varieties/errors on all and only minor varieties/errors on BU coins. I usually just look through the BU coins when I cannot get bags of cents.

Just out of curiosity, how much time per coin do you spend?

About 30 seconds is what is required of me, and I can't seem to speed it up.

Nowhere near that amount of time. I only look at certain parts of the coin depending on what year it is. Such as the date, liberty, ear, EPU just dependent upon the year. 2011-Date, 2006 -Date and ear, 2004 EPU, 2000, 1999 and 1998 -America, 1997 - Ear, 1995 - Liberty, 1994 - Pillars, 1992 - America, 1988 - FG, 1984 - Ear, 1983 - One Cent and so forth. I can usually spot the semi major just under the magnifying glass such as the 2013 P 1DO-002. I have 5 the last 24 hours.

Under normal condition I do three per minute. I check front and back on each coin.

WOW! Frankly, I need a better brain. I can't remember what "error" goes with what year, so I have to sort them by year first and then, with a cheat sheet of "things" to look for, I search. Anybody have quick way to remember all this or does it finally stick when you do it enough?

Also, are you doing this for the thrill of the chase or are these errors worth serious money?

I don't think that I would be looking at coins if I were in it for money. You would be better off getting a part time job where the payoff is guaranteed through a paycheck. Even if you were into collecting coins the part time job may be the best route and just buy the coins you are looking for. I think that it is either the thrill of the hunt or probably just a lot of OCD that comes into play.

1: mostly we are talking "varieties" not "errors".
2: don't try to "remember" any date, get a good working knowledge of what varieties look like.
3:There are too many to attempt to remember them all. If you stick around here long enough and study sites like http://doubleddie.com/1801.html and
http://www.coppercoins.com/
the "biggies" will eventually stick in your head but don't ignore the "minor" ones.

Most of us are in it for the hunt, I sell some of what I find but it's really not for the money.
