But I saw a series 1950 $100 Fed. Note in the wild today. Looked to be in pretty good shape. Wish I had had the cash to drop on it. I've looked online and it's not a rare year, but even so I've never seen a bill out in the wild that's that old.

Who knew those were still out there?

You're lucky in the States having so much old paper money in circulation. The Bank of England redesigns banknotes quite regularly and withdraws the previous design from circulation quite rapidly, although demonetised notes can always be exchanged for face value at the BoE in London. Our oldest circulating banknotes are the Houblon portrait £50 from 1994. I recently got a virtually UNC one of this type with Merlyn Lowther's signature (1999-2003) and decided to save it!

NumisRob. Right you are. The pre 1900 us currency is fabulous looking. Also CSA currency also looks great and is fairly cheap.

I received a 1950 a couple years ago, when cashing in a box of halves. Its close to XF, so someone was probably saving it.

I ask the tellers I know well to save any bills larger than a dollar, with a small portrait. So far I've only come up with a 1985 $50. They are getting quite scarce.

agree with you numisrob, keep on to it! wish I could find a mint 50 or two =/ so far kept two fives and 5 tens. but yeh deviating from the main subject. Think one time in nandos my mate got an old Stephenson rocket 5 pound note probably from the 90s but that's the oldest I seen. Also got a US 2 dollar note from 1976? I got a 25 cent coin with a drummer(looks very 1800s solidery) so guesing something to do with a centennial or bicentennial? did mention something, 1776-1976? yeh sounds right now.
