I agree with PCGS, by the way. I'd give it an MS64, maybe with a +, myself. It's pretty amazing that someone else knew the past history of the coin. NGC seems to carry a bad reputation with this series, especially considering how they tend to auction at the previous grade-level value.

But that's grading for you, a real subjective "science." Thankfully I have no personal investment with the coin.

Not sure if we're conservative or NGC was VERY liberal on that one. Seems to be an example of NGC market grading it a 66 (saying the market should value it as a 66) because of the color/eye appeal. It would be interesting to auction it in it's current holder and see if it brings the $1200+ a true 66 should bring.

I think 62 or 63 would be a fairly conservative grade and that's what most people guessed. But there's no denying NGC was liberal. This piece most certainly wouldn't get $1200 at auction IMO, but possibly up to $750-800. I hope some future owner holds NGC to their guarantee, but who knows if they'd actually fold and say they over-graded.

Funny how the coin came back to me here! Thanks for showing it SecretGlitch, a great coin as I remember, amazing how after I looked at something kept nagging me about it, like deja vu, and I had to go back into my brain's data base to locate the source of the deja vu feeling I was getting looking at it again after a few years.

I look at a lot of coins at Heritage since they are down the road from me, and what better way to keep sharp than by looking at a ton of graded slabbed coins? Especially ones I normally would never see in hand at a show or a dealers store, having Heritage so close is a big plus for staying up on coins. Now I wish I had bought it! But I never thought of cracking out and sending to NGC. Somebody made some quick cash on this one.

I think it might get $1200+ at auction from an internet bidder possibly, a reach, but with a coin this pretty and the reverse showing such a strong strike maybe. If you are planning to sell it let us know - I think Great Collections or Teletrade when the market is a bit hotter for sales, it might do really well. It really is a nice looking type coin. Thanks again for sharing it with us!

Like I said, I don't own it any longer. It's a fantastic coin, for sure, and its PCGS holder was the perfect place for it. I just thought it'd be interesting to gauge the reactions of the forum, and indeed, it turned out more interesting that I expected. I'm sure someone who is building a high-grade toned type set may appreciate it.

Ah well, thanks for the "Deja Vu" moment, haven't had that happen in a long time! That was fun! and someone is enjoying owning this piece today in that holder with that grade slapped on it.
