Appears the die has degraded leaving the poor surface quality and machine doubled on the strike. nlp

The Cherrypicker's Guide does reference a 1943 DDO, but not that extreme. The CPG description is "extreme extra thickness on the date & all obverse lettering". The picture in the book shows thicker numbers, but not separate numbers like in the auction. The thing that concerns me about it is the extremely grainy look to the coin... maybe plated?

Aye this is die wear, not a real DDO. Neat die wear, though. :-)
