They were from different coins, but for fun they made copies and visitors could see an aluminium (or similar) disk struck by a 'coiner' to make replicas which were then sold in the shop as souvenirs. In this one last year I posted a scan of the information sheet that came with the one my father purchased from the Jorvik Centre in the 1990s.
