Pretty sure it's a copy.

When the Viking excavations were done in York, they found two coin dies. They were from different coins, but for fun they made copies and visitors could see an aluminium (or similar) disk struck by a 'coiner' to make replicas which were then sold in the shop as souvenirs.

I think that's what you have. Hope it wasn't expensive?

True. Much under a few £000 would be a decent price for a genuine one!

Yep, it's a "Jorvik penny" reproduction. We've seen quite a few pop up on the forum lately. Here's one from last month. In this one last year I posted a scan of the information sheet that came with the one my father purchased from the Jorvik Centre in the 1990s.
