I came close to buying this one, but the denticles scare me (not even) and the top right of the coin gives me that little "poured" bump appearance. Even if genuine the two cuts on the profile would probably drop it from gradable. Thoughts? Observations? Paleoguy http://www.ebay.com/itm/29094432340....m1438.l2648

Maybe it's just the photo, but the centering appears poor. With wear on the rim, the denticles do merge, but I'm not at all sure that the wear one the rest of the piece is consistent. But I'm no judge!

Looks ok to me. I'm no morgan expert but all seems within normal standards.

It looks like there's rust on the obverse and its overall filthiness would preclude me from buying this coin. It's just one dirty piece with no eye appeal. You can find a cleaner, but not cleaned, looking 1889-CC for the about the same amount of money and it will more enjoyable to look at. Ed ANA LM-3175

I wouldn't touch one of these without a top TPG holder.......Then I would examine the holder very carefully.....

Those 'little "poured" (raised) bumps' in the stars don't get me much excited about this piece, either. For me, the stakes are just too high to make a bid. I would need to see such a piece 'in hand' for close examination, ring tone and weighing for my commitment to buy.

The mint mark position does not match any known reverse die. Even if the coin is (stretch) authentic, the mint mark is not.

I agree with you completely Dave. I couldn't find a match on the die pair either. PG

I'm a total Morgan noob, but are those reddish areas on high points of wear? Is it plating wearing off a copper core?

I'll be glad to comment on his query. The discoloration on the coin appears to be a stain of some sort or paint, not a substrata coming through... I just sent the seller an "ooops" message that his coin in all probability is not genuine and he might want to take it down. His statement in the listing that it had "been in his Morgan album for 30 years" doesn't bode well as to integrity, but who knows.... I just know I ain't buying it!

Aye, there's not enough to condemn this outright with a big bold red flag, but I would avoid it. Something isn't quite right.

I don't see Morgan's M on the ribbon. My guess is not the real deal.

The rust destroys its beauty, but that is just me.
