As I've said on here before, I'm still very new to collecting, and I'm going through my father-in-law's collection to catalog it. I came across this very hefty five marks coin, and I'm having trouble eyeballing a grade. I have no confidence in my ability as a new guy. Reverse looks great, minus the spot and a little wear. Obverse shows some wear in the hair. I figure it's somewhere between VF-20 and EF-40, but that's a wide range, and a range in book value of over $250 dollars.

If it's on the high end of that range, I'd probably want it graded and slabbed. Otherwise, I wouldn't. The links are to the originally sized images - warning: they're very large.

Not an expert per se, but my goes goes VF20-30. I wouldn't expect an XF grade from a TPG on this. Good luck!

If that's the case, I definitely wouldn't send it to a TPG. Thanks for your thoughts on it. I'm still really happy with it; it's the best find I've discovered in this stash in a week or so.
