I recently picked this up and I think I'm going to send it to a TPG, which I've never done before. I'm hoping it could get MS64RD with PCGS, but the PCGS population for that grade is intimidating.

The two things that I'm worried about are the scratch on Lincoln's shoulder and the small nick on the reverse below "M" in "AMERICA". Also, that strange red line below the date isn't a scratch, it only shows up when the light hits it at a certain angle. It was difficult to capture the exact color of the obverse because there was so much lustre, but it's basically blasted gold all the way through, and those dark areas on the obverse are just shadows from the lightening. The second picture shows a good amount of red, but in normal lighting, you can't even see red. I apologize for the long paragraphs, but what do you guys think?

Lovely looking coin..

I would say MS-64RD no problem.

It looks a bit RB but, you say it is the lighting, so I'll say RD
Rest in Peace

What do we think? I'm still trying to catch my breath.
J-win, hope you get MS64RD or better!
Badthad should be along with opinion. I hope.

Wow! Very nice VDB. The 1909 VDB DDO is on my list for my 7070 VDB Type.

I missed (by that much) an opportunity to pick up an ANACS (old white holder) MS64RB on Heritage last Sunday, literally two seconds (if that much) late and it went for under $100. It would crossover easily! It was a lessor DDO, but still! http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...=15008#Photo

Thanks for reopening up that (not so) old wound!

The FS-1101 is the more dramatic of the DDO's for the VDB.

"A second 1909 V.D.B. doubled die obverse exists (FS-012.1), but it exhibits only extra thickness in the letters."

NICE COIN!

EZ 63 and a good shot at 64/65. A lot will depend on the luster.
