So I have this customer I sold 2 coins too One 24K gold plated penny and one 2006 magnetic. This package was sent to Quebec with tracking and signature option. He got it yesterday and claimed there was nothing in the envelope. The part I don't get it why would he sign for it if it was empty? When your expecting coins your expecting weight right? Not feathers... He also claims there is no damage or sign of entry.  When I said ill call police and file a report he said I was taking too far also when I asked him for pictures he denied and said he would not send them to me but only ebay customer support. This has to be the worst customer on ebay by far. Now he wants a refund and opened a case through paypal. I honestly don't know what to do  |

Contact ebay and explain the situation and report him for abusing the buyer protection. The more proactive you are with ebay the more likely they are to side with you. Dont delete the emails either as ebay can read them if theyre still in your inbox |

Very sorry to hear what happen.
If you would take pictures or create a video of yourself putting the items inside it. Then you would have proof showing you packed the package. ( I know it's too late, but I am just letting you know so if it happens next time, you got proof.)

Even photos wouldn't vindicate one as the seller could photograph everything, but could not prove the coin was in the envelop when mailed. It's hard to prove everything conclusively.

But when I asked him for pictures of the envelope he received he would not send them to me. That's what I found really odd

I NEVER use ebay for big ticket items, unless I personally know the seller, or their reputation is of the highest order, and is well known by everyone. |

You are not responsible for this situation, you are covered by Seller protection. Don't refund him, let them escalate it to support. You provided tracking that was marked delivered and have signature confirmation. Unfortunately most people are honest, 1 out of 25 people are sociopaths according to Harvard psychologist who wrote the book "The Sociopath Next Door". They will also be able to investigate his activity to see if this is something he has done in the past. Just call support and tell them your side of the story. ebay does also have policy about abusing their buyer protection or abusing their other policies. Are you in Canada as well? You may want to check ebay's seller protections for Canada. They still may side with you anyhow especially if the seller has a history of this stuff. Edited by buddy16cat

Glad to hear you were covered by seller protection. I wonder if the buyer has done this before or they simply covered and refunded the buyer? If the buyer has a history of it, I would think they would charge them.

Just a thought Jkol,, although it's a bit late now.
When you posted the item you had to pay for it according to its weight. If there was nothing in the package then I would have thought the price would have been negligible. Whereas if a coin was inside, the cost of postage would surely reflect this.
Maybe this will help someone in the future.

If you had the actual weight of the package received on the post office receipt that could help for someone that claims it was empty. The postage itself though wouldnt really help. It may be different where you are but in the US the post office lets you over pay for weight if you want. I could send an empty bubble mailer with postage for a 10 pound package if I really wanted too. They may ask if you want to redo it cheaper but if you say its fine theyll send it. |
