It's good to see you again Gofindtreasure. With all due respect to barryg, I disagree. If I were in your situation I would do THE EXACT same thing. I wouldn't dare take a chance listing this thing any lower than you did. A bidding war might commence if you list it lower. Then again, it might not and it might sell for half of what you're asking. This bar is awesome: rare size and lowest serial # I've ever seen. Other 4s with higher serial numbers have sold higher, so why take the chance? If it doesn't sell, you can try again later. The beautiful thing about a high starting bid, is you only need 1 person to want it at that price. A bidding war requires at least 2. Based on the others that have sold over the last few months, I'd be surprised if yours didn't sell. I think someone will bid on it now, but if they don't, someone will if/when you list it again in the future. I wish you the best of luck! I'll be watching.

I am going to weigh in on this thread.
The bottom line line is the owner of this bar is entitled, in my opinion, what ever the MARKET can bear. He is letting the market decide and the market clearly wants it with/despite lower PM metal prices.
So more power to him and once again, you can see how the efficient the markets work even in numismatic and or collectible pieces. Its a beautiful thing.

I have not clicked on the link in thread open but I am gonna take a guess that is a FOUR oz rare serial number Engelhard bar?
Another fine example of some things always being worth way more then spot if I am right and if it is true even if it is something else....
As the owner replied some who like rare penny's may pay hundreds where most see zero value and vice versa on us buying silver. It is a diverse world and this allows for amny markets in many genres....

Well, at least two people thought $3,250 was a low enough starting price. I wonder how high she'll go!

Now to actually get someone to send you the money once they win. I have found on ebay especially when you have a high dollar item people tend to get buyers remorse before they pay. I wish you the best of luck, not sure why you waited several months to sell it though? If I found something like that it would have been gone months ago replaced with a few 100 ounces of silver.

One of the high bidders is a steady client of mine, I don't think you will have any worries a out getting paid when it comes to this item.
The starting bid was a good laugh for me. I sell a lot of rare engelhard and JM bars and find the 0.99$ starting with no reserve works best. Knowing you only paid under $300 for the bar to begin with I would have started it at $0.99 you probably would have seen better numbers and received way more exposure for this item.

I don't think exposure is a problem. 595 views on this thread + other forums
The number of views and lock ins on the auction is staggering!
$0.99 is the right starting bid for all of the other rare bars out there.
This one stands alone.
I firmly believe that.
To put it simply. Better things in life command better prices.

Quote: Knowing you only paid under $300 for the bar to begin with I would have started it at $0.99 you probably would have seen better numbers and received way more exposure for this item. What does it matter what price he paid? He knows the market potential and the lowest dollar amount he was willing to accept. Last August three 4 oz Engelhards were sold and the price ranged from $1,650 to $3,500. Why risk it? If I found this bar on the sidewalk and two seconds later someone offered me $2,000 for it I would say no way. In my view he shouldn't be happy for whatever he can get just because he doesn't have a whole lot into it. In the grand scheme of things, there are only a handful of people who are legitimately interested in this bar at that price, and I'm sure they are all aware it's there for the taking. As silly as it sounds, there's nothing stopping a bidding war from starting at $3K+

Looks like I may have to put up my 4oz bar then if this thing goes for over $4000 I'd like to see what my 0002 goes for with paper work from a former engelhard employee

Thanks for the support Crow What I paid for it really is irrelevant.
As for your 4 oz bar swrbxxx
That sounds great
Can we see a picture?
I'm sure you would have no problem fetching a high premium for that one.

Agreed, that would be something to see. Is it the same style as the 00004?
