Wasn't this same bar the subject of a previous thread here on CCF? That bar and Woodward's bag look VERY familiar.

Thanks for digging up that thread SDCrow! The ebay auction is using some of the same images that were posted to the original CCF thread and the seller is from the same area as the OP from that thread as well. Interesting.

Personally, seeing as how the starting bid is $3250, I wouldn't expect to see this go for anything.

Looks like someone canceled the bid that was on it the other day.

I'd rather have 2 oz of gold plus several silver coins

This is a fascination I have never understood. But I guess that is true of many things people collect.

btw, the market for these bars can stay that high until chinese fill the market with all those easy to counterfeit bars ... making them out of 999 silver and granting them low cert.numbers

I think Barry is right. This bar is a classic and a beauty and an Engelhard collector's dream, etc, etc, etc, but... $800 per oz for silver is too rich a price for ordinary mortals. Unless some super-wealthy Engelhard fanatic shows up, that one won't be going anywhere.

Dear everybody.
I don't think you would sell your home for $200 000 if all of your neighbors houses were selling for $500 000....and you had the biggest lot with the nicest view.
I am simply following a path that the market and collectors have chosen.
Am I lucky to have come across this bar , absolutely.
But I would be unwise to sell it for less than the current asking bid given the marketplace for these Rare bars.
Some people collect rare pennies that silver collectors see as worthless , and some people collect silver bars that rare penny collectors see as worthless.
It's great that the world is so diverse.

Don't get me wrong -- I'm not implying that the bar couldn't sell for that much or even that it isn't worth that much. I'm just saying that starting the bidding that high will likely prevent it from selling (as opposed to starting it lower and letting a bidding war commence).
