Recently I've been going back through some coins I have had for a while in order to try to grade them according to the ANA guidebook. When looking at an uncirculated 1945 Wheat cent under 10x magnification I noticed a small raised line between the "C" and "E" of "CENTS". I took it to my dealer and he immediately identified it as a die clash and pointed out other small areas on the obverse where the reverse image had been transferred.

When I got home, I noticed even more details. There's not much of a premium, especially on so common a coin, but I just wanted to share my excitement with others that I know would appreciate such a find.

I tried to get some good pictures to share, but couldn't, so sorry. However, I'd love to see or hear about other members' die clashes.

I have a heavily worn clashed 1811 half. Even in that state you can make out ghostly eagle's wings on the obverse.

chetzler - Clashes are fun! Check this SLQ out, just found out about these clashes myself tonight.

My favorite are multi denominational clashes, and most proud of the 1864 LM Two Cent Piece clashed with an Indian Head cent I have in MS63RB PCGS holder. There is a site to learn more about these at http://maddieclashes.com

Also the Clashed 'E' reverses on Morgan dollar VAMs are an entire sub catagory of collecting in their own right.

Thanks for the SLQ thread link, west coin. It was fun to watch the detective work in that thread as it progressed. How on earth does a multi denominational clash occur!? You'd have to have mismatched dies in the same press--I wonder what was going on at the mint that day!
