I must admit I am a beginner at coin collecting having just inherited my father's collection. It's not big and it's not worth thousands like I bet some of yours are. But, it has sentimental value.

My first post here is about Coin ratings. I have a 1921 Morgan silver dollar, marked DPD#58. I am assuming the DPD#58 is some type of rating. But you know what they say about the word assume.

I tried the internet and found a lot about the Dallas, Denver, and Detroit Police Departments, but nothing on a DPD rating.

Could anyone point me to a book or Internet link that might explain DPD#58?
Thank You

Welcome to Coin Community, bmachia. I've taken the liberty of moving this thread to a more appropriate audience.

I have never seen nor heard the term "DPD" used in numismatics before. It's very likely connected to a previous owner or dealer who sold it. A stock number, perhaps.

bmachia, to the CCF

w/ SsuperDdave... I bet it's a dealer's inventory control #. Is the coin in a 2x2 cardboard flip, or has it been graded by a TPG? Can you post a picture of it?

"DPD#'s" seem to be assigned to the Morgan dollars (and plenty of other stuff), being sold by an ebay seller by the name of dumppickers_dicker:

Thanks Guy's
I appreciate all your responses! In all honesty my father had to acquire this coin years ago and I do not have anyway to tell from whom. It is in a 2" square cardboard wrapper and has a clear plastic cover over the front and back of the coin itself.

At least I know I am not loosing my Internet search skills coming up with only information on various Police Departments through-out the nation.

Last night I purchased a Coin Red Book from Amazon. I am hoping that will help me figure out what is in this suitcase. Funny, I really wanted an App for my Smartphone. But, there isn't an App for that. Maybe creating an App like this would be a good business adventure.
