I am a noob when it comes to collecting Morgan dollars. I bought this particular coin from ebay a few days ago and it just arrived in the mail.

The seller has a pretty good reputation but today I looked at his "feedback" and one buyer left a string of negative feedback claiming that the coins he received were "garbage", "junk", etc.

Here is a pic of the obverse and the reverse:

Apologies if the pics are of no help. I'm afraid that my camera isn't all that great, and to be frank, I'm a crappy photographer.

Anyway, any advice as to how to spot a cleaned coin would be greatly appreciated!

Wiped, maybe, or it could be lightly circulated, both have that appearance. What the crap is it resting on? Rock? Ouch...

It is resting on my stamped concrete patio. Yeah....I know! I was extremely careful when I placed it there.

I brought it back inside and took another photo of it with my Galaxy III phone. Angle and lighting issues, but I think that I'm heading in the right direction.

Thanks for you input!

I think it looks like its been dipped/cleaned. It might be the light but I don't see a lot of luster and it looks like there is a haze over the stars.

The coin look okay. The cleaning, if it was cleaned, look market acceptable. It looks lightly circulated.

Yes the coin has been cleaned but I don't think it merits a Grade Details - Cleaned listing. It looks to me as if the first picture highlighted all the contact marks when comparing it to the third picture.
