Poll Question
Many of you have received the email notification from the USMint of the release of this coin on August 8, 2013. How many of you are planning to buy, buying how many and WHY? I understand the quantities will also depend on the USMint price. I assume that gold price will not change within the next 8 days or so. Looking back at the 2009 UHR, the price was spot + $200+ premium, what's do you think is the price for this coin? What was your 2009 UHR coin purchase experience like? With all the delay that's happening for the ASE set in the last couple years, would you think the USMint will run into production/delivery delay issue also? Lastly, with the mintage for 2009 UHR at 115,178, what do you think the final mintage for this coin? Here's the link to the USMint page: http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...ory_rn=10111

I am still debating between getting 1 and 2 coins, because of the cost factor and I am having 2 kids (1yr old girl and 0yr old boy).
I would hope that the price will be $1400 or less.
I do think this will be a hot item like 2009 UHR. I still regretting for not buying the raw coin when first released (around $1200) and when two was on the market locally for around $1800, now it's going for around $2500+. The silver commemorative Buffalo coin was sold out of the maximum release and still command large premium. I think it's the ONLY modern commemorative with such performance. The USMint will probably not shipping out this coin until the end of the year... Christmas gift, anyone?
I would think that this coin will also have 100K+ mintage (probably btw 100K and 120K).

I think the secondary market demand for these will be less than the UHR, since the UHR also had alot of classic coinage collectors drawn to it because of the design. This coin lacks that pull into the classic realm of US coinage. But since its the first reverse proof buffalo, I imagine it will see price increases after production ends. Now whether or not those margin increases make it a worthwhile endeavor is another matter entirely.

$1,690 is the base price, gold and platinum proof AEs have a huge $300+ per oz. mark-up. Gold traditionally takes a breather during the summer then starts to heat up after Labor Day, so I don't think this coin is going to be priced LESS than $1,690 during the four-week ordering window, so if you want this coin, order it early. The flip side to this offering will be cutting into the sales of the regular 2013 proof Buffalo, which may end up to be a surprise sleeper coin, much like the 2008 fractionals and 1 oz Buffalo.

$1690 is quite high ($300+ mark up =~ 17.75% premium)..... may be if gold drop just below $1300 (only about $5) by Wednesday, we can save some $$$.....

I'm looking to buy 1.
Currently I don't have any gold coins and promised myself I would get at least 1 gold coin and then start to look more at the fractional proofs.
Bizybackson and XavierOfGreen bring up wise points. Guess one never knows the true winner until the race is over or you have the fix in, I've gotta go with the first.

Either the picture on the Mints website is wrong and it shows an UNC version or the design does not lend itself well to a Proof or Reverse Proof manufacturing with no smooth surfaces on the coin.

jack, I thought the same thing. Then I used the zoom feature and in the pop up window to the right of the coin you could get a better idea of what the buffalo will look like. You can do the same thing with the obverse. Not great but a little better.

I want to first of all hug SA4H *hugs* lol and I mean that in manly excited happy way, as in this is such a GREAT thread to start so thank you!
Right now I will stick with just one I think as I mostly see it as a collection. However, it would be tempting to load up the boat on these. I see great investment potential here. Look folks this is my case for the investment side and mind you, I would prefer GLD over coins.
1- Unique product from US Mint
2- Limited production
3- SOLID GOLD
4- The market for this will be huge, highly liquid and this will be a desired coin.
5- Take one, buy it and don't open the box. It then qualifies to be graded and you are going to get a pretty penny for that.
Now, I realize many folks are going to say, WOW that's being greedy or just too profit driven. But I am just putting up some ideas. I am right now interested solely as a collector.
I love animal coins, this Buff I love this series,,,,, and this is a unique coin period.
Finally, I wanted that UHR coin and I got so busy that I forgot to pick one up, Shame on me. So please don't be like me back in 09 and please make every effort to get a unique coin.
Finally, I don't do well guessing so I wont guess on the production number except I think its going to be LESS than the UHR reason being that US Mint sales have been going lower over the years, people have lost a little bit of interest in gold and silver and finally this is a big ticket item.
Anyways, I expect everyone to get one lol don't disappoint me!

The website says Mintage Limit: None
Unlimited mintage then? There goes the collector value.

Yes,,, but its only a one time offering and thats it,, so the mintage amount isn't going dent this coin.
Get one DB! Dont hold back on this coin!
