Does anyone have a possible rough estimate of how many Longacre double die pennies there may possibly be out there? I have one Indian sent that looks to be DD such as this but also another Indian that looks to be a standard DD, I will post pics soon. In my research on the web, I have found a few resources stating that the longacre dd is common and doesn't demand a premium. Why hasn't this type of double die been declared a variety? Personally, I think this is a very neat looking type of double die and can't understand why this has not been declared a variety type. I appreciate your expertise an opinion.

Many of my Indian pennies have it. It's just called Longacre doubling. Different process than hub doubling that produces double dies.

Thanks Coop! So is it technically a double die?

It is considered as master die doubling. Very common and not just on Indian Head cents. The design must have needed altering and they altered the devices making them deeper. (IMOHO) No premium for these. People get suckered into buy them thinking they are doubled dies.

I was suckered. Luckily, didn't spend much. One looks questionable to me though. I will post pics when I receive. Thanks Coop.
