what are your concerns with the slab or coinEDIT - I just looked that number up on NGC's site, and it was not found

The coin has no mintmark and the NGC site has no listing for the slab

no mintmark is possible on coins from the Philadelphia mint. Not showing on NGC site is troubling

Its not as uncommon as you would think for a cert not to show up in the online database.
Nothing on the slab itself jumps out at me. Id give them a call monday, theyll probably want you to send pictures or the coin itself and theyll say for sure. They might also have it recorded in their system that just isn't showing up online.
From the pics my guess is they had a clerical error or for some reason it didnt end up in the online database.

I sure hope so. I can't imagine why the coin shop would have wanted so much money for it?

Nothing stands out as fake to me, it looks like a regular NGC slab. As mentioned its not really uncommon at all for there to be clerical errors where a cert # is not recorded or even the wrong number (one # on the slab and a different in the database). And also as mentioned its a Philly coin, not San Francisco.. All NGC Morgan slabs will say that after the year and mintmark, it just stands for Silver dollar. But anyways, all that's already been said, I'm more curious anout the store you bought it at. It kind of bothers me that a local coin store would sell a common date/mint Morgan as a much rarer (for this year) "S" mint, and bothers me even more so that they didn't know that the "S$1" meant silver dollar.. I'd have to assume that pleanty of NGC slabs have passed through there hands... I really hope they take the return. Just explain the situation to them and if there any kind of honest seller they should take it back. And being new to coins it never hurts to educate yourself as much as possible. No offense at all intended but before you start buying high(er) value coins it would be a very good idea to do alot of research and know exactly what your looking for and eventually buying. Know what to look for on the slab or more importantly what to look for on the coin itself. And always remember that you should always buy the coin and not the slab. It's also not all that uncommon for TPG'ers (even the top 3) to misgrade coins, in fact if you sent the same coin to PCGS, cracked it out and then NGC, cracked then ANACS and then cracked it out again and sent it to PCGS again it wouldn't be a surprise if it came back differently graded, even from the second attempt at the same company... So basically learn to grade the coins yourself, don't just go by what the slab says. And also buy coins you absolutly love... For most coins in most series there are many examples available, you don't have to buy the first you see, wait until you find one you "can't live without"... You'll know what I mean when you find one of those coins. If you buy on a whim you might regret it later or find another example that you like better.

I see nothing wrong with the same, and NGC has been having server problems with the server the certificate verification data is stored on for the past day or so.

If the local coin shop charges $200 for a 1904 "P" Morgan AU, I would shop else where.

What shop was it? I'm in your area - I work in Camden - and I'd like to do something about them.

Slab looks fine. But agree with unreasonable price!
I just received my NGC gold panda that I can't find in NGC certificate verification page also, bought it from Modern Coin Mart, so not too worry about it. I contacted both MCM and NGC to verify whether its the problem on the server like Condor mentioned.
