News to me. Found it surfing the web. http://www.pcgs.com/restoration/policy/Comes with a long list of procedures, looks like every submission will be videotaped also. Can't do this without a grade service level being applied and done. Minimum cost not so bad at $25.00 but I could see the fees going up quickly. You still might end up with a details or genuine only slab. So they clean your coin- then downgrade it due to a cleaning? "Buy the Book Before You Buy the Coin" - Aaron R. They wont give you a details grade from anything they do themselves unless it already deserved one.
But they started a couple months ago, its relatively new though

I've been tempted to try it with an crusty PD I picked up but... they're kinda vague on what they will and will not attempt to fix (or I'm just not good enough to justify a ~ $25 bet on it).

Quite possibly, NGC does it sometimes so I would expect it will happen with PCGS too. And I believe they started about three months ago. Typical innovation from the self proclaimed industry leader, wait for someone else to do something, watch for awhile to see if it works or is accepted, and then do it yourself while proclaiming a great new step forward for the hobby.

Let's see now - Cleaned by them doesn't count as cleaning, but suspected cleaning that is 100 years old is noted as cleaned without clear and definitive evidence?

All I can say - meaning no offense - is, "Welcome to coin grading." It's as subjective to them - regardless of their "expertise" - as it is to you or me or any other CCF member. And we're not a whole lot less experienced; having graded 100,000 coins doesn't mean much if you've never been taught to see the difference between cleaned and uncleaned. And that's assuming the difference is obvious in either case, which it isn't.
