I've been filling some Kennedy folders and have noticed some interesting little differences with the P mint marks.

Some of the 1984-P marks appear VERY close to the date compared to previous years. After 1984, the P seems clearer/larger.

Is this the mint messing with the design, or are these 1984 coins I have just natural variations within the "margin of error." I can't seem to find much info on newer Kennedy variations. Thought there might be some interesting history there.

The mint marks were hand punched until 1990. The locations varied because they were hand punched. In 1990 they were part of the hub design from the master hub. So after 1990 RPMs would no longer be seen. Since then if there is a doubling on the mint mark, it would be from the a doubled die. ( Die Deterioration and Machine Doubling could also alter the mint marks.)
