Hi all!
I just bought some coins from Taiwan and I was wondering if anyone knew the name for the effect that some of them have where there are different images as you move the coin side to side. It's hard to describe, so here's a youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuiwlJwzsSw . It was recently introduced to the Canada toonie. The canadian mint calls it a virtual image as well as lenticular effect on some commemorative dinosaur coins. Is there a common name for this? I think it's really cool, and would love to collect some more. I know that Taiwan, Canada uses this effect, as well as the 500 yen and 10 rouble coin. Does anyone know of other coins that have this effect?
Thanks!

I think the most general term is "latent image".

Perth Mint has struck quite a few for various countries such as the Solomon Islands and Tuvalu.
There are also the hologram coins that were struck by the Royal Australian Mint back about 2001-03. IIRC the 2001 issue was the worlds first with that effect.
I'm not sure of the technical differences (if any) between the hologram coins and the lenticular effect coins.
