I have several pennies in my collection in 2x2s marked "55, poor mans double die" and some marked "shifted 5".

I can't seem to find anything on these other than the normal double die strikes. I'm certainly not experienced enough to look at them to see what they are. Anybody have any idea on what these might be?

Rick

Im assuming you acquired the flips with someone elses description of poor mans double die? Would need some pics to verify, but I am going to guess they are going to be machine doubled coins, not double dies.

Yes, I acquired them from a passed coin show dealer and I assume it's his writing on the 2x2s.

I'll crack a couple open and try to take some pics.

1955 poor mans double dies aren't worth much. Here's a link about them:

Pics would still be good to see, just in case.

1955 "Poormans's doubled dies" are a form of Die Deterioration Doubling. They have nothing to do with real hub doubled dies and are very common.
