Assuming you're buying a current year issue, how much should I pay for a Silver eagle.
A guy I know from work says he buys 2 per year and pays $8-12 each from "the Internet", but he can't remember where he gets them.

But I'm seeing them ranging from $15 to $25 in a raw state, where have you guys (and gals) gotten good deals on them?

Thanks.

Your friend may remember paying $8-12 a few years ago, but not the past couple of years. Buying a single silver eagle from ebay is kind of expensive- usually priced over spot but then you have to pay $5 shipping too. A local coin shop is usually the cheapest place to get small numbers of ASEs, my shop sells 2007s for $17.

If you do not have a local coin shop, look for cheap shipping on Ebay

I know every store I buy them from are about 2-2.50 over the price of silver and there prices change daily with the price of silver. So right now they should be about 15.50 for a new ASE I would say any year for 2004-07 should be in that range. But yes as far as your friend remembers. I know in the early 06 I was geting mine for 10-12 dollars when silver was lower.
If you are not sure the price of silver there is a link on the side of the page that has spot prices.

garylcsr- I was looking for an '07, I'm thinking of starting to buy some coins to put away for my kids.
Not really for college savings, but just because.
My parents did it for me, and I'd like to do it for them.
Rest in Peace

Silver was a good buy last week but has gone up this week. I buy mine on Bulliondirect.com and have always been very pleased with their prices and service. Today a silver eagle can be had for $14.98.

Place a freebie add in your local paper that says "Buying Silver Eagles for $15.00". Most people know they paid $10.00 or less for their silver eagles and may consider selling their coins to you.

If your looking for one coin or a certain date, find a local dealer. ebay and the shipping charge make it too difficult to find a better deal.

I am currently buying at the $16 to $16.50 range. One must remember they are based on the current price of silver per ounce and the markups for distributors and dealers. I would be very hesitant to buy online or by mail if the price fell below these levels as of today. Some of the national dealers will actually take a loss on Eagles just to get you on their mailing list so those "buys" are something to watch for!
