While I am not new to CCF, this is my first foray into this forum. It should be noted that the only thing I really know about Silver Dollars is that they are worth more than a dollar.

I noticed some doubling on this coin, which I would take to be Machine Doubling based on my experience in Cents. Is this fairly normal for this date? I ask because I am trying to get a handle on understanding VAM's.

Thank you for your time, analysis, and opinions. And your patience with a true Silver Dollar newbie.

Keep in mind, this was the single largest Silver Dollar production ever, at almost 52 million. So, pretty much anything that could happen to a coin at the Mint is "common" for this one.

I think it's machine or Die Deterioration Doubling. This looks like the B1 Reverse, which doesn't have any VAMs with prominent obverse doubling.
