Most of the proof-like coins of the early 1950s were from the old cardboard sets, which if stored in the wrong environment, caused the rims on the nickels to rust (1953 & 1954) and the silver coins to tone.
Some of the nicest blast white cameo coins you see in
TPG holders are because they were dipped. I suspect your coin was dipped a long time ago.
I am not saying that is a bad thing... I honestly believe that some coins, especially proof-like and specimen strikes, are improved with their eye-appeal with a dip by someone who knows what they are doing....
