I found a couple of 1969D WQ's tonight and I couldn't help but notice the completely different looking Mint Marks. I was also wondering if maybe the first one might be an RPM.

Also, for what it's worth, the reverse of the first coin has a RDV-004 instead of the normal RDV-005, which I understand is fairly scarce. I just don't know enough about Washington quarters to be sure about anything...

What do you guys think? All opinions are appreciated, thanks.

The images are taken too close to tell what is going on. The first image should include the area around to the left. If there is a similar pattern West of the mint mark on the devices there, it might be Machine Doubling on the first image.

Second image also is too close. There is a lot of die flow on the field indicating this is a VLDS die example.

The pictures are hard to discern, could be an RPM, but it could be Machine Doubling, or with the second image it looks like die-deterioration. Clearer pictures would help and it would also be helpful to see what the other devices on the coins look like as both MD and DDD would most likely affect other areas of the coins as well.

Oops, I probably should have made this post much clearer...

The first photo is of the coin in question where the MM not only looks different, but is in a different location on the coin. The second is representative of a normal MM and location (yes, with some Die Deterioration ). I have found 5 1969-D quarters with this normal looking MM in this location on the coin.

My question should have been this: By any chance, is this first photo showing a 1969-D/D RPM FS-301? I can't seem to find any images of one to compare with (If anybody has one please post it, I would be most appreciative).
