This coin is well circulated, so there is no luster. Could it be an unplated cent, or has it been altered. This is the first one I have ran into, so I don't really know what to look for that says, "altered". Thanks all!

how much does it weigh? It probably is environmental damage, maybe it was in the ground for a long time.

I could be mistaken but at 8 o'clock on the obverse and on 11 o'clock on the reverse there appears to be a copper-looking tone/color.

My scale only weighs to the nearest 1/10 of a gram. It says 2.4g. When I first started, I was only trying to decipher copper vs. zinc 1982's. I bought a cheap scale. I need to upgrade to a 1/100 gram scale. It is accurate for its tolerances. Zincs weigh 2.5 & coppers weigh 3.1, normally. But if it rounds to the nearest tenth, I still have an error of +/- 0.05g. So I guess it weighs "around" 2.4g. I know, horseshoes & hand grenades, right? Sorry I can't be more helpful here.

That looks like a "rusty" looking stain under the loupe.

From the back, to me anyways, it looks like it could have soot or fire damage to it. Does it smell like smoke? If you rub your finger on the rim ( like where a reeded edge would be) does anything come off onto the cloth or your finger?

The pictures indicate (to me, at least), that the copper plating has worn through in some places, and is still remaining in others.
