As long as the Quarter Eagle is complete/whole, today its worth about $161 in gold alone. The condition looks nice with no scratches, although it was probably cleaned at some time, so the value would go up. As your Grandmother's, its priceless.

The bezel and chain are also likely made of a gold alloy. Are there any markings like, "10K" or "14K" that can be seen? The value of the chain and bezel could be significant.

Thanks Fuzzy
BH, there's a 14k near the clasp on the chain. Edit* Looks like there are some markings or letters on the ring at the top of the bezel, but they are small and I can't make them out with my loupe so not sure what that is.

Chances are the coin will have damage to the edge so there will probably not be a collector value only gold value for the coin + chain. John1

It's sounds like the bezel and chain (minus the screw) are going to be 14K gold. If you have a good scale, weigh the entire thing and let us know the result. We can get you a gold value estimate and then add in a small numismatic premium for the quarter-eagle.

Okay, let's assume you used a standard scale and 0.25 ounces is avoirdupois which equals 7.1 grams total weight. The G$2.50 weighs 4.2 grams leaving 2.9 grams of potentially (likely) 14K gold. The weight of the screw is usually less than a tenth of a gram and will be ignored.
14K gold is 14/24 pure or 0.5833 fineness. 2.9 grams times 0.5833 equals 1.69 grams of pure gold or 0.054 troy ounces. That's roughly $73 worth of gold right now.
Now about that $2.50 Gold Indian. It's a slightly better date and worth well over it's current melt value of $162. Even with AU Details it's close to a $300 retail. Let's say $275 anyway.
So where does that leave us? The current retail value of grandma's gold coin necklace is around $350. We calculated the melt value at $235 so that would be a rock bottom minimum wholesale value. Remember the 14k stuff will bring under melt but the G$2.50 will always bring over melt.
If I were selling that piece and knew the bezel and chain were 14K? $300 would be the least I'd accept. Good Luck!
