1863 Civil War Token. Grade, Rarity?

jpbone Pillar of the Community United States 1959 Posts	Posted 08/12/2013 7:28 pm I know this probably isn't super rare, but, I'm becoming more interested in tokens and was wandering if anyone could tell me a little about this token. Is there a good beginners guide to civil war tokens? I have collected US coins almost my entire life and I would like to know enough about them to buy intelligently if/when I come across them. I looked on ebay to price it and couldn't find an EXACT match. The wreath and the word "NOT" were different on the few I looked at. Thanks in advance! Report this Post to the Staff

The Fuld catalog number is typically given as 87/356; this, with the lower, obverse die number being first. There are a few dozen varieties of the Indian/NOT one cent type CWT's. Whitman has recently published a new CWT book, penned by David Bowers. I've yet to get a copy but plan to do so. Friends have recommended it to me. Report this Post to the Staff
