Awesome idea! Someday I will get around to photographing and posting my collection. My picture taking skills are freakishly bad though. Thank for sharing!

Nice way of recording your collection, actually. This could be used as a database, I think (instead of using those softwares or accdb.

Yep it sure can... You can track both your collection (which is for public viewing) and your inventory... You can track data such as: Purchase date, purchase amount, purchased from, etc (which is private)... Its a nice little site.

Quote: Both from 1960 and it is a variety that many don't know about so everyone get out your 1960's and check them out. Can you take a photograph of the rim (edges) of those coins, side by side? Most times the thinner rim is the result of a weaker strike by the third die, the collar.... My bet is that thicker rim is nice and square, and the thinner rim will have bevelled edges...

Well if didn't find any in tubes so I cut this out of my second collection: Side By Side Rims Together (Narrow on Right Side) Narrow Rim Wide Rim Hope those help It does seem that the narrow rim is because of a weak collar strike.. based on those beveled edges... learn something new everyday. Added those images to the coins on PoC for others to see :). Thanks for all the knowledge SPP.

It does not necessarily mean the collar die is responsible for the thickness of the rim that see on either side- but it is an observation that seems to correlate well with most Canadian denominations... I actually don't know exactly why this happens...
You see the same effect with a 1977 nickel dollar (strong, thick rim with full reeding) versus a 1975 nickel dollar (light reeding with a 'rounded' feel to the rim. 1974 nickel dollars, you get both... and it is very noticeable with the thick and thin rims...

Interesting... It does seem that the Narrow rim is less common then the wide rim. I think I had 4 Narrows to 46 Wide's. How about those 1960's you recently been going through do you see both the wide and narrow rim variety?

Yes - weaker strikes have the thinner rims. What impressed me is that some coins were struck with new dies, very strongly. If they didn't come out of a mint bag, I would begin to think they were specimen strikes....
