Hey everyone for a few weeks I have been thinking of purchasing Quadrum coin holders for my higher end coins some shillings in VF and one in EF ranging from $600-$1100+ and am quite confident in them after contacting the manufacturer but I have heard of airtites and am tempted by them but by far prefer the Quadrum holders but not at the compromise of protection of my coins. So would anyone have any advice for either preferably the Quadrums? and also they come in 23mm and 24mm but the coin it self is 23.5mm and was wondering what size I should get? (sounds silly but I have heard the foam can contract a bit)

Thanks in advance

I'm not such a big fan of airtights, they seem to crack, and scratch easily. They are tough to photograph through and even harder to open once a coin is placed in them. I have never seen the Quadrums before other than on the web so I can't speak for them.

I have used plenty of Air-Tites and been pretty satisfied with them. I am likely going to the store today to get some Quadrums as I have wanted to try them for awhile now. I have been hesitant on trying them as I am not sure the quality in which they snap together. I have tried some generic ones that seem to fall apart if you look at them wrong. Not my idea of a safe holder :)

Occasionally, I will put encapsulated coins directly into the pockets of my album pages, if they are thin enough.

For items that may have a value of over $1,000 I will consider to put them into ex Royal Mint screw acrylic capsules, and into a small safe, where they become less accessible. Even then, valuable ancient coins are very awkward to store in screw capsules. These go into mylar / cardboard 2x2's, then into archival quality 6 pocket album pages, in the safe.

Square Quadrum 2x2 clip lock cases are better suited for display in a glass case at a coin show, or in a coin shop. They don't fit into my own storage system.

I should clairify that I have not used airtites in over 15 years, they may have changed the quality somewhat in the past 15 years. Mine used to scuff rreally fast leaving hairlines all over the face of them. The edges seemed to be quite brittle and cracked often. I may have to try some out again as I see so many that do like them. I would think they would be really good for keeping proof coin in.
