Another proof found in my roll picking, so I only have face value invested. I looked up the difference between Type 1 and Type 2, but couldn't find anything on the CCF search engine.

Is this Type 1 or Type 2? Is there anything that can be done about the discolorations on the reverse?

The S mintmark almost looks like a S over D under a loupe (I couldn't get it to scan in sufficient detail). Not only are the areas between the loops filled in, it appears to be squared off. The doubling suggested by the scan does not appear to me in hand.

Does this grade MS in this condition?

A closer look at the mint mark would give us a better view of your coin.

Thank you very much. I tried to up the dpi on my scanner to scan the mintmark, and the scanner refused to cooperate. When I tried to make the mintmark larger, it simply pixelated out.

When I read that Type 1 was known as the blob, I immediately assumed it was Type 1. Now that I look at the photographs (particularly enlarged) on the site you provided, it looks more like Type 2 to me.

Is it still MS?

It will never be a MS. It is a Proof so the grade would be PR-whatever grade.

Something to try on your scanner is to set to the highest picks you can get, and place a darker color paper over the coin. This should help you get better images and maybe you can enlarge the mint mark area because of the higher pixel setting.

I see. I was looking at the NGC price guide, and it has for the proofs G/VG/F/VF/XF/50/53/55/58/60-70. Would it make PR-60?

There is a light contact mark on the obverse. Maybe a PR-58. The coin is so close to your grade though.
