Here's a coin that's been well worn and worn as jewelry as well. Do you think it has any value left?

possibly, but very little unless a rarer attribution could be determined.

It could be the oldest coin in your collection.

It's the oldest US coin. I do have one or two Roman coins in MUCH better shape.

Like this one.

If it's not an overdate or rarer date, not that much..maybe a couple bucks.

To me, this coin looks like it got some corrosion in the ground, then was found and perhaps holed and worn, acquiring more wear.
As to the rarity, I think the tight date and shift to the right of the letters of LIBERTY relative to Liberty's head is a good match for the obverse shared by S-144 and S-145. Unfortunately, the reverse just isn't right for the R-7 S-144! But what do people think of this being S-145? Hard to be confident on the call.

Philadelphian,

Thanks for the direction. I used Photoshop to overlay the image and the reverse of my coin does not match the reverse of S-144. The overlay does match S-145 almost exactly.

If it is a S-145, would it be worth sending it in for confirmation in this poor and damaged condition?
