Another coin series I know almost nothing about.

Got this coin for 21$, as I figured it gotta have some premium, over melt, and it's a cool coin.

What would you grade/value it?

Thanks for looking .

To be honest - it's melt value only. These are really very common and it's not a rare date or anything.

I don't think Louis Philippe's coins have worn well at all. Those mutton chops seem to wear quickly on the design and leave a lot of these type of coins quite unattractive - though in this case it's a moot point as they have worn off completely. Naturally AU+ coins have a huge premium.

The grade would be around G-4, the value would probably be it's melt value.

I would buy this for melt any day, but not for more.

There was a nice one of this series that just sold yesterday on the 'Bay, L-P still had his nifty sideburns and the fields were in really pretty good shape. Went for about 200.

There are certainly very good examples of the bigger mintages to be found in the marketplace, but because these coins did circulate for a very long time they are expensive in high grade.

It's worn but it's cool and cheap. I carry coins like this around as pocket pieces. Once you have one you'll want another and in a short time you'll be bidding frantically to get that elusive 1829H 2F Charles X. If you turn out like I did anyway.
