I went to Iceland a few years ago, and look what was hiding in a pile of birthday cards on my desk!

It even has the Krause-Mischler numbers on the back, so obviously they knew what they were doing.

I had to open it up to find the dates/denominations - the 5 aurar makes BU, the rest are all still pretty good. Apparently, there's not much demand for Icelandic coins: a shame. Today the kronur is worth just under one cent (or half a pence), making the eyrir completely worthless - like the yen/sen situation.

Nice little piece! Good info, too---I've been looking for a source for Icelandic coins (aside from ebay) for some time and now I've finally got one. Thanks!

I should have taken more home - every coin has a sea creature on it. My favourite is the lovable Lumpfish on the 100KR (worth maybe 85 cents, I've found two in junk bins for 20).

And almost every 10KR coin made in 2006 has severe Die Deterioration, especially around the date. There's a whole laundry list of chips and cracks, and since mintages are low (it's a country of about 1,000,000), the whole year might actually be one big die progression.
