I finally got an awesome key date that has been on my list since I was a kid. It's only taken me 40+ years! Image: DSCN4699a.jpg80.76 KB Image: DSCN4701a.jpg88.71 KB Image: DSCN4702a.jpg51.89 KB This is probably the first key date coin I had ever heard of. The 1909-S-VDB Check out the condition on this one! How would you grade it? I am taking a survey to see if I was right.

Hi Morganator
the pictures are a little small to grade from ,,but the coin looks to be about EF-40 to 45 based on the wear on the obverse, the reverse appears to be a little less wear . This could change with larger pics !!
I cant tell about the D of the VDB but the offset looks about right,
Is this coin Raw ?
If you could post larger pics in the grading forum I would love a closer look at the coin !!
Congrats !!

Morganator, it's a beautiful coin. Congratulations. I'd say EF-45 to AU-50. The 1909S-VDB & the 1955DD were definitely the first Key Dates I ever heard of. (Also, the legendary 1943 copper.) BTW, does it look like the rim is much wider than normal to anyone? BTW, part 2: If you don't mind me asking, how much $?

I have waited 50 years to buy that coin.
I'm still waiting.

The pictures are a little small, but I'd give it an AU. Looks like lite wear on the cheek bone & jaw, not really seeing any wera on the reverse. Great looking coin.

Morganator, great coin. I agree that larger pics would help with grading. I'm leaning towards AU-50. So far as the rim goes, it seems alright. Jim

I'd post larger pics, but my photo editor tacks on mb's until this is the only size I can post. Bummer. I was told AU by a penny dealer who had no interest in the coin. He was giving his honest opinion for the sale between a friend and I. Let's just say the coin was over 1K.

This looks like a very attractive example with nice even color and a strong strike. I don't really see any obvious wear and the wheat ears look fully detailed. I'd say AU-50 easy and I don't think AU-55 is out of the question. I'm also still waiting for my S-VDB! They've always seemed just a little overpriced. Of course, if I'd taken the plunge a few years back I'd be feeling pretty smug now. Congratulations Morganator, this one looks like a winner!

Awesome! Congratulations on a major milestone! I am not much for grading lincolns, so I'll cede to the others in the EF/AU camp on grade.
