My friend's grandma and great aunts inherited a lot of coins. My friend's great grandmother passed away last year at 102 years old! These were all her husband's coins many year before that.
The US silver coins were easy enough to appraise. No key dates unfortunately.
I wanted to come here and see if anyone recognized anything special in the world coins? Thanks for any info!
Its not really possible to see what you've got in the way of world coins. I believe you have a couple of Moroccan coins in there.......which may be worth something...if it were possible to make out what they are.
You've got all kinds of things there. Mexican, Canadian, Moroccan (the ones with the pentagrams & hexagrams), Japanese (the one with the paulownia plant motif), Imperial Chinese, Fascist Italian, Republican & Vichy French, Soviet, British, Australian, Hungarian (including the one with the crown dated 1932)… I don't recognize anything of special value, but it's certainly an eclectic mixture.
I think your 20 kopeks is an older type that's worth a little bit.
I also see a old copper Sen (1/100th of a Yen) - its face value is negligible and they're not worth too much, but still an interesting old copper.
Your Canadian large cents are worth close-up pictures, there are plenty of helpful people in the Canadian forum who can help you attribute them (also: 1858 is the rarest date). In this condition (problem-free G or better) they are all worth at least a couple bucks.
Is there some British silver? Seeing the monarch on a British coin is useless, unless you're at the point where you can pick them off by size alone - I think you have a George V three/sixpence, which is either .925 or .500 silver.
25 cents (1/4 gulden) with Wilhelmina is silver.
I could do more with pictures, video isn't a very good format for fine detail.
Thanks for the info guys! And sorry about the quality. If I was making the video at home I could actually do it pretty well. My friends was in a hurry to go.
My camera does 1080p Video. When I use my loupe I can get nice detail. Unfortunately pictures are MUCH harder to get up than videos. So annoying!
Here is a video where I show some good detail. I have gotten better since this video too, this was my first video using the loupe:
If I can look at those coins again sometime, I'll try and get more detail. My friend's great aunt is particular about holding onto the coins even though she didn't think they were worth much!
Video is not at all useful. As for that link.....your were just looking at French Euro coins.......there are a heap more varieties some more boring some very interesting.
It would take me a lifetime to get good photos up of all the coins. And in the end, they aren't mine and I would get nothing for it. Unfortunately my time is often very limited since I am in grad school. Doing videos is usually how I show my stuff. My friends will just have to get the stuff appraised by a professional if they want the real value. I gave them a rough estimate mostly based on the price of the silver coins on ebay.
And yes, I realize I didn't look at rare coins in that video. I was just showing what I did in an another video when I wasn't so rushed. I just meant to show that I can get good detail, it just takes time on each coin. I just did a quick overview of that big pile of coins, as I was being rushed.
