I thought I read somewhere that putting coins in acetone gets the gunk off them without considering them 'cleaned'. I have a penny that's a very weird color, but most of it might be surface grime.

Maybe a mod could move this up one level..I didn't realize I posted in the roll hunting topic. I meant to post in the general discussion topic.

Some people consider removing gum, just by grabbing it, a "cleaned coin." People vary on opinion. Acetone is an opinion. Many hold that since it doesn't react with the coin it's fine.
