Poll Question
Okay, I know we talked about $2.50 coins (which I would hate, and prefer an even $2 coin without a change amount) a $250 bill vs. a $200 bill (a $250 bill also thought by me as a bad idea) and another idea I suggested over a $2,000 bill, if we ever reissued the $5,000 and $10,000 bills (a $2,500 bill which I think would also be a bad idea) I did, however, kind of like the idea of a $25 bill over a $20 bill. The reason? The $20 denomination is the most common denomination used in the U.S. after the $1 bill, and there is little reason to doubt that if we changed to a $25 bill that the $25 bill would do any worse in circulation, and carrying four $25 bills over five $20 bills, if you do not want to carry a bunch of $10s or a couple $50s, if I wanted to carry $100 or $200 or so in mid point denominations, $25 bills instead of $20s, would be nice in my opinion. And it would also save the government by printing less $25 bills over more $20 bills. But, would this further kill the use of the $50 bill, just as the quarter dollar coin killed the use of the half dollar coin?

This is just an idea, or more like a "what if" type of thought. Oh, who am I kidding? I actually more likely oppose the $25 bill because I would hate to see the possible death of the $50 bill, and I like things the way they are, aside from halves and $2 bills rarely circulating, $500, and $1,000 bills no longer circulating, and the lack of a $200 bill, and/or possibly $1 and $2 coins instead of bills for those two denominations.

So which would you prefer? The $20 bill we have now? Or a new $25 bill?

Poll Choices
I prefer that we stick with $20 Bills
I would like to switch to $25 Bills
I would have liked $25 bill had we started out with them, but I don't support a change from $20s now
I would only support the $25 bill if it saved money.
I would support both a circulating $20 AND $25 bill
I would prefer to keep the $20 for general circulation and $25s for collector purposes
I'd want to switch to $25s but still print $20s for collector purposes only

Oops! I guess I should have also included the option "Either way is okay with me" (If you still want to vote for that option, just reply with it to this thread.

Consider me among those who appparently is resistant to the thought of change. Plus I'd hate to see the $50 go away. I do like it.

Adding (and possibly replacing the twenty with) a twenty-five dollar makes no sense (and has no chance) if we cannot even manage to replace the one dollar note with the one dollar coin (a change worth making).

You are right jbuck, replacing the $20 bill with a $25 bill makes no sense, however, I believe that replacing the quarter dollar coin with a reissued 20 cent coin makes a LOT of sense, for two reasons: 1. It would make it easier to eliminate the nickel (along with the cent) to round to the nearest dime, and 2. The move to a 20 cent coin would probably get the half dollar coin back into circulation.

I do agree. We missed the opportunity to do it right in 1875.
