I am not positive what it is but Chuck will be around sooner or later..but I am sure it is after the minting process that it appears. it could be movement in the machine or something like that too but I am not poss. amac44 Member United States 3242 Posts	Posted 06/06/2007 8:04 pm Trapped air it is when air get in the layer of copper over zinc in the planchet.and show up in the strike as bumps 1984 was a year that had a lot with bumps It was mainly in 82-89 cents,but it still happen today too Report this Post to the Staff

There is no such thing as "air in the planchet" - it's tiny bits of debris that corrode the zinc and cause it to expand. That's what causes the warts. Report this Post to the Staff
