Do the original envelopes or even the boxes the coins shipped in add any value at all to a proof set? I have a lot of 60's proof sets with original envelopes and boxes.

Numismatically speaking....no

However people want to collect full sets and they want everything that ever came with it sometimes so it can add a small premium to the value.

OK, so if I move any of these sets to like a binder I'm not going to hurt the value then. I have quite a few I'm keeping and wanted to be sure I can safely discard the 40+ year old nasty envelopes.

Sometimes the original holders are quite important to collectors, but if they are ruined they are ruined. The condition of the coins is paramount.

Sometimes people like to have their mint products in the original envelopes or packaging. The nice thing about that, is that you can buy new envelopes that look exactly like the original ones on ebay.

That is also a problem.... many of the sets selling on ebay as unopened sets, are in fact retreads.

you can get a few bucks for a box or envelope on ebay so don't get rid of them. like Becky said some collectors want them all complete. myself I break everything out mint and proof. I like them better in my books than in box's. I cant look at them in a box. so I have a stack of them and will put them on ebay soon. I used to send them to a dealer and he would make money on them till I found out I was giving away money lol
