Just some info on your notes: The $1 note is listed in Slabaugh's book "Confederate States Paper Money" as a T-43. The T-43 and the T-44 are similar notes with the T-44 having the green denomination overprints of "1" and "ONE". The vignettes are identified as "Steam Sailing Ship" and at left is a figure said to represent Liberty but is more likely a nondescript product of the artists imagination. Lucy Pickens portrait is at right, she being the wife of F.W. Pickens, Govenor of South Carolina from 1860-1862. 2,102,200 of the T-43 and T-44 notes were issued with about 1/4th having the green overprints.
The $2 note is listed as a T-46 with it having the green denomination overprints. The T-45 is the same note without overprints. The vignette is an allegorical representation of the Confederacy striking down the Union. (The true picture shown is actually Hercules liberating Prometheus by killing the vulture that was eating his liver- from Greek Mythology). The portrait at left is of Judah P. Benjamin, a Confederate Cabinet member. There were 1,749,600 notes of T-45 and T-46 issued with more than 85% not having the overprints.
The book mentions that these notes are usually found "worn".
