For those who sell coins on ebay, how many have been contacted by a random buyer (or just another member who thinks they know everything) telling you your price is too high, you'll never sell it at that price. I've had a few send me messages about how STUPID they thought I was for pricing a coin at the STUPID amount I had it listed. About half the time I sell the coin at that price and ban them from accessing my auctions. I will admit that once in a while I'll overprice a coin, but just because I didn't research it as well as I should and thought it was a less common error or variety and even then I sell the coin about 25% of the time Just want to know. People have this annoying tendency to judge other people but for the wrong reasons...
I have been speaking out against people who do this but sadly, I think I may be alone in my efforts.

I agree with ben there's no reason to do it unless you're making an offer to someone. If its something that doesn't have a best offer listed and its an expensive listing auction price history can be a good way to support why your making the offer. Its one thing to tell people they have a fake listed but if they're just complaining about prices for no reason there's much better ways for them to spend their time.

I've never been one to shy away from a good peeing contest. I've told more than one hyper-critical eBayer that... "When I want your advice I'll go shoot myself."
On the other hand, as recently as last week an eBayer contacted me about how I had grossly misrepresented a key detail on a coin I was selling. He told me to "pull your head out of your (a place the sun never shines)" and stop lying about this key detail. When I looked at my listing I realized I had messed up. I had copied over the description from a similar coin I had sold earlier and had failed to amend that description to fit the coin I was currently selling. I wrote back to him and told him that while I didn't appreciate the way he'd phrased the criticism, he was right and I thanked him for pointing it out to me.

Just keep doing what you are doing. Block everyone for doing so without good reason. There are plenty of good buyers and I'll bet you won't miss the potential trouble makers.

I've been tempted to contact some seller's, who are way overpricing and trying to rip-off others pretty obviously, but never bothered because people like that who have no scruples or ethics are usually beyond "reaching" anyway. I have no idea if you fall into that category but perhaps some thought you did? It is annoying having to wade through a lot of ridiculously high priced coins to find some worth negotiating for/on. I've been "lectured" for what some considered "low ball" best offers. Like told to do more research because no one would sell that coin for so low - when they were asking twice retail and my offer was a reasonable 80% of retail instead. Usually I just ignore such ignorance but occasionally some seller will get a tirade back when they are being ridiculous. Some try to lecture thinking they will save themselves and others from future lowball offers. But what they consider lowball IS NOT so they are just delusionally greedy! I have bought hundreds of coins on ebay and online so I know you run into all types. Typically you just have to ignore the loonies. Sometimes they do cross the line and "get to you". Just press on, is my advice.

Every once in a while I get a lecturing "your price is too high" email. I simply thank them for the information and move on. Quite a number of times, I've had the item sell a week or two later for my asking price after being told it was "too high". When I get a low ball offer, I just tell them "No thanks" and move on. I try not to let a few loonies get to me. Life is too short for that...

Not on ebay but I have selling at shows. I had one older guy come to my case and ask to see my 1877 IHC's. He slid them across the glass at me, "Too much!".."Overpriced!"..etc. I was almost about to say "you want them for free?" I bit my tounge.

I mean what is underpriced and overpriced mean anyway? Ok, an 1883 AG Liberty nickel for $5000 might be overpriced :-)

Ha!
It might work :) He sure tried it with me. The funny thing is, I found out he was a dealer too. I wanted to find his table but didn't. You just have to let this stuff go. I've always been the one to just let other people be right ;)

Just let other people continue to "think" they are right.

I forgot to post this when I sold the coin in question. I had to list the coin twice because it didn't sell the first time. The second time I listed it I thought about dropping the price, but because the person had tried to tell me what to ask for my coin, I left the price the same and the listing was free both times. I didn't look like it was going to sell, but it sold with about an hours left. I though, this should show the person that said I wasn't ever going to sell the coin that the price was correct after all. Well, the person that told me I was asking too much for my coin DID contact me again. After telling me that I would never sell it for the asking price and all that would happen was I would be paying ebay listing fees over and over on the coin if I didn't drop the price by 25%... they contacted me to pay for the coin as they were the one who bought it! I gave them positive feedback because they paid as soon as the auction ended and they gave me really nice positive feedback when they got the coin. I didn't say anything to them about telling me it would never sell and they didn't say anything either. When I saw it was the same person that contacted me in the first place, I had a really good laugh. I guess they just really wanted the coin, but wanted a discount. I guess I can't blame them for trying. Ben

Actually that is pretty sad. Someone LECTURING you on how overpriced it was and then buying it at your original price after all. That is lowbrow and pretty bad form if you ask me. Trying to get a discount by bullying/lecturing just strikes me as unethical, dishonorable, dishonest and sleazy. It is yet another example of how rotten this hobby can be at times. IMHO Sleazebags trying to take advantage of kids, elderly, less-informed or bullying their way to discounts is just not cool - in any contexts! Why do people think being unethical in any hobby or business is okay? Pathetic!
