Honestly, I have no idea what to make of it. I thought that it was grinding, but saw no sure signs. I thought that it was a split planchet, but then again, no sure signs. All I can think is...a blank obverse? Opinions?

Likely had the obverse milled off to make a love token. Whether or not it ever was engraved as a love token is hard to say.

The weight is an important clue for something like this.

I agree with BH1964.
The start of a love token.

Love tokens are most commonly quarters, a Half Dime is rather small. I can't recollect seeing a Half Dime love token. That said, it's post mint for sure.

I have seen love tokens on all denominations, but they are rather unusual on Half Dimes. So an unfinished love token is a possibility.
