I bought this note today in a deal for $35. I looked it up in the Hugh Shull book and it is listed in 1855 but not 1856 is this a counterfeit or is it real and is it common for the date to be wrong? Looks vary genuine to me.

Thank You,
Carnell

There seem to be examples of Haxby PA-480 G172b out there dated 1856, and even 1857.

I don't know a ton about Obsoletes so you can take my opinion with a grain of salt...but this seems to look like to legit of an example with all the natural looking wear and pen sigs for someone to go through the trouble of counterfeiting something worth $35 bucks. And unfortunately, grading something like this doesn't make sense either because it will cost you more to get it graded then the note itself is worth. And if philadelphian says there are later date examples then you probably don't have much to worry about. Nice note, btw.

HA archive shows one sold with a 1856 date, it was with a $10 and $20 from the same bank, all in fine condition(GradedPMG 10, 10net, and 15) sold for $400. So $250 seems to be a legit estimate. Nice find and good deal slqcarnell
