I need some help with this coin. I got as far as identifying it as possibly a Japanese Mon? Anyone know what it is and a rough year of manufacture?

Thanks.
Tim

Kind of close, it is Chinese, not Japanese.

Your coin is upside down. The characters on the right hand side of the top picture are called "BOO." When ever you see the boo they should be on the left hand side of the reverse.

I think it is:

China, Emperor KAO TSUNG, AD 1736-1795
S-1464, "BOO CIOWAN" (Board of Revenue mint in Bejing).

Coins from the Board of Revenue Mint are very common. Emperor Kao Tsung coins are also very common because he had a long rule. You can narrow the date down more by looking at certain identifying marks. I usually call it good with this because if you are not familiar with Chinese characters it all seems like black magic; also the casting process has a tendency of distorting the surfaces.
