I have a 1962 Proof cent that is completely silver looking. The planchet looks to be the right size, but this coin looks silver through and through.

It is probably toning from the packaging, but I thought I'd better make sure and ask for some opinions. The camera battery needs a recharge, so these 2 pics are the best it gets for now.

Understand, you're comparing a 40 year old 95% copper coin to a modern copper plated zinc cent, they are different. Additionally, copper can tone nearly all colors of the light spectrum, so color alone is NEVER an indication of much other than it's been exposed to a reactive material.

If you're suggesting the coin might be an off-metal, it would have to be weighed accurately before any valid opinions could be rendered.

In my experience as a full-time dealer, this is a normal 1962 Proof Cent.

My dad has a 1962 zinc penny. All my research so far shows people saying it's acid dipped. Which it's all copper almost so how would that work leaving a zinc color ? And also it seems there are a few 1962's like this. Kinda hard to believe everyone has a conclusion it's acid or home plating.

So I guess every home plater decided to all pick a 1962 lol

And it does weigh 3.1 grams.

Also he said he has a 1958 wheat that's the same.

And neither one stick to a magnet

Looks plated from what I can see. Ruined a 1962 cent.

So if it's plated ok. My curiosity draws me to why is there multiple 1962's?

Seems astronomical odds that multiple 62's are being found around the us and even if they're plated. Why 62?

People do weird stuff with coins. Sometimes trying to create an error coin. Sometimes plating companies hand them out as advertising. I got one like that. But the plating ruins collector value. Just like the 1943 re-processed coins are ruined to collectors. Gold/platinum quarters, ruined to collectors. I have rolls of 1962 coins even rolls of 1962 proof coins.

On the 1962 cents there are doubled dies affecting the date:

There are many different dies of these. (I wonder if there was a doubled hub?)

I agree there's a lot of weird stuff out there. Just seems odd there's a few 62's know about and there's no info on them.
