You should post a pic of the 1837 after you get that gunk off. It would be sweet if it had sharp details under that stuff.

They both have issues, the date on the '54 is pretty rough.

if I get a decent result I will post a new pic of that 1837. The date was a bit weak on the 1854 but I don't think it would drastically effect the value.

I think the 1854 would grade around VF-30, the date looks like it was Struck Through Grease or has a weaker strike.
