The 50/3.5 is a macro lens, and a good one, with the compromises of magnification and relief inherent in the focal length. If you're a "walkaround" photographer, you'll find the 50/1.4 to be among the best one-lens solutions out there.
In all cases, you're going to need to learn to depend on manual focus because there is no autofocus. These are lenses for the expert photographer.
