I recently purchased a couple of non-numismatic things on ebay. As I was leaving feedback and DSRs for the two sellers, I was perilously close to pressing the "Leave Feedback" button when I realized that I accidentally gave one of the sellers a rating of 1 for Communications and Shipping. I really meant to give him 5s for both, so I fixed it and then hit the button.

It made me realize how easy it would be for someone to unintentionally leave someone a poor rating. If you try to give someone a poor rating on an item's DESCRIPTION, it gives you a pop-up menu that asks you some further questions about why you're leaving the low rating - and that strikes me as a good idea because that should stop you from accidentally messing up that particular DSR category.

So why don't they do something similar with the other categories...?

Thats a good question why they only make you confirm it for the one area. I guess they think thats the most important.

It also strikes me as odd you could leave positive feedback with 1 star ratings.

That seems to defy all logic in my world. (And trust me, there isn't a whole lot to defy.)

It does to me too, youd think if you picked positive like a 3 star would be the lowest. The ones where the stars and the comments dont agree are head scratchers to me too

The ability to leave a positive feedback while also leaving low DSRs allows eBayers to sabotage one another. And it absolutely DOES happen from time to time. It hasn't happened to me but I have a friend to whom it did happen. My friend and another eBayer frequently sell the same kind of coins on ebay. This other eBayer bid and won some of my friends coins, gave him a positive feedback and then gave him all 1s in his DSRs! My friend is pretty savvy and was able to figure all this out - there absolutely IS a way to figure out who gave you lousy DSRs - and put this other eBayer on his DO NOT SELL list. And, fortunately for him, he's such a good, long-time seller that he was able to withstand the low DSRs and not lose his Top Rated Seller badge.
